How to Sign Up for Traffic School
Step 1: Check Eligibility
-
Pursuant to Vehicle Code section 42005 and California Rules of Court rule 4.104, traffic school may be approved only if all criteria below are met:
- You must possess a valid California driver’s license
- The violation must be an eligible Vehicle Code infraction
- The violation must carry no more than one DMV point
- You have not attended traffic school within the past 18 months
- The violation must not be related to alcohol or drug use or possession
- The alleged speed must not be more than 25 mph over the limit
- The citation must not be for Vehicle Code section 22406.5 (tank vehicles)
-
If your citation lists an out-of-state license but you now have a California license, you must appear in court to correct it before becoming eligible.
WARNING: If you are not eligible but enroll anyway, your fees will not be refunded and the conviction will be reported to the DMV.
Review your courtesy notice or contact the court if you are unsure.
Important: If you are not eligible, the $52 administrative Traffic School fee will not be refunded.
Step 2: Pay Your Citation and Traffic School Fee
