CEQA: CEQA Assignment Effective January 21, 2025
- 1:30 p.m. CEQA Motion or Case Management Hearings – on Mondays. Counsel and parties may appear in Department 606 in person or by videoconference using Zoom ( CEQA Zoom Link will be operational on January 21, 2025).
- CEQA Writ Hearings – date to be determined by the Court. In-person appearances are required.
Specific Information for CEQA Actions
Superior Court of California, County of San Francisco Local Rules of Court: Rule 6.11.
Electronic Filing:
Electronic filing is required in CEQA actions. Local Rule 2.11 discusses information regarding electronic filing and service, including exclusions to the electronic filing rule. When filing your your CEQA matter please refer to Local Rule 6.11D, Initial Pleading Alleging a Claim under CEQA Designation/Courtesy Copy -(The caption page of the first pleading in any case that alleges one or more claims under CEQA shall clearly identify that the case is a CEQA case. The words "CEQA case" must appear on the caption page. In addition, at the time the pleading is filed, the person presenting the pleading for filing must notify the deputy clerk processing the filing that the case is a CEQA case.

Other than for an ex parte application, the parties must deliver courtesy copies to the CEQA Department of all papers filed in support of or in opposition to any motion or petition in compliance with LRSF 2.7.
Motions:
Motions in CEQA cases are normally heard on Mondays at 1:30 p.m. in department 606, subject to change based on the court’s availability. A reservation is required. To schedule a hearing for a CEQA discovery or law and motion matter, please call the court’s calendar clerk at (415) 551-3703. Courtesy copies must be provided to the court pursuant to Local Rule 6.11.
Writ Hearings:
CEQA writ hearings are held on Mondays at 1:30 p.m. and are calendared pursuant to the parties’ stipulated briefing schedule, which requires court approval. Courtesy copies must be provided to the court pursuant to Local Rule 6.11.
Ex Parte Hearings:
CEQA ex parte hearings are held Mondays at 1:30 p.m. in Department 606, in-person or by CourtCall. A reservation is needed, please contact the CEQA clerk by phone 415-551-3703. Parties must follow all ex parte requirements set forth in CRC 3.1200 through 3.1207. Bring the following to the hearing: a courtesy copy of your filed application, two copies of the proposed order and the File & Serve Xpress Transaction ID number (unless you are excluded from the electronic filing requirements). Please arrive early to sign in. Note: Please request with CourtCall to be heard in Department 606 - CEQA Ex Parte' Hearing calendar.
Settlement Conference:
Per Local Rule 6.12.F, Mandatory Settlement Conferences are coordinated by the Court's ADR Coordinator.
